Abstract: First and foremost, pregnancy is not a disease; it is a “state of being”. All mammals, humans included, are on this planet for one purpose and one purpose only, to procreate for the purpose of the continuance of the species. No religious arguments will be discussed in this paper as they are all irrelevant to the process of a normal human pregnancy. This paper is being written so it can be used as a quick review for physicians that may not do Obstetrics as their primary speciality. Many countries allow General Practitioners and Family Practitioners to manage pregnancies and deliver babies, as long as they have privileges to do this in the hospital. A Monoamniotic Pregnancy Discordant for Limb Body Wall Complex and Complicated by Acute TTTS by Pace Carlotta in Juniper Publishers in Academic Journal of Pediatrics & Neonatology Abstract: We are reporting a case of monoamniotic twin pregnancy discordant for Limb Body Wall Complex (LBWC), complicated by acute twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome. The twins were delivered by an emergency cesarean section at 29+6 weeks ’ gestation because of persistent fetal tachycardia of the unaffected twin. The phenotipically normal twin was anemic at birth (donor twin), while postmortem examination revealed a condition of overloaded fetal circulation of the LBWC twin (recipient twin). This is, to our knowledge, the first case of acute TTTS in a monoamniotic pregnancy reported in Literature. In monoamniotic pregnancies discordant for LBWC careful fetal monitoring should be granted, as the presence of the malformation masks the classic signs of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome ....

Comparison of Umbilical Cord Milkingand Delayed Cord Clamping in Term Neonates: A Randomized Controlled Trial by Amit Upadhyay in Juniper Publishers in Academic Journal of Pediatrics & Neonatology Abstract: Objective of the study was to compare the effect of umbilical cord milking (UCM) and delayed cord clamping (DCC) on hematological parameters (serum ferritin & hemoglobin) at 6 weeks of life in term neonates. It was a Randomized Controlled Trail conducted at a teaching hospital in North India from August 2012 to August 2013. Babies born at > 36 weeks of gestation were randomized in two groups, UCM and DCC (100 in each group). Umbilical cord milking was done after cutting and clamping the cord at 25 cm from the umbilicus. In DCC group , clamping was delayed by 60 to 90 seconds before cutting the cord. The baseline characteristics were comparable in the two groups.
